How much does hypnosis to quit smoking cost? On two UK practitioner booking pages in October 2026, a stop-smoking session was listed at £250. This guide shows what those listings included, what Cochrane says about the evidence, and which cheaper options to weigh before you book.
How Much Does Hypnosis to Quit Smoking Cost?
Two UK practitioner booking pages showed stop-smoking prices on October 11, 2026. One listed a stop-smoking hypnotherapy session at £250 (shown as 90 minutes). The other listed a stop smoking and vaping session at £250 for about two hours, with a recording to download. That is two listings, not a market average, and this guide does not quote US prices because no US practitioner price list was available to cite.
The price tells you what you pay, not what you get. The most recent Cochrane review of hypnotherapy for smoking cessation, published in 2019, concluded: “There is insufficient evidence to determine whether hypnotherapy is more effective for smoking cessation than other forms of behavioural support or unassisted quitting.” That does not prove hypnosis fails for everyone, but it does mean a high price is not backed by proof of a better result.
Price Per Session and Package
Hypnotherapists price in two main ways: a pay-per-session rate, or a single longer stop-smoking session sold at one price. Here is what the two booking pages showed.
| Practitioner page | What the page lists | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| KW Hypnotherapy booking page | Stop Smoking Hypnotherapy, listed as 90 minutes | £250 | Page says “costs £250 per” without naming the unit; paid at booking |
| KW Hypnotherapy booking page | General rates: initial consultation (60 to 90 minutes), then follow-up sessions (about 60 minutes) | £60 first, £55 each follow-up | Bundle of 3 sessions for £150 |
| Space to Think Hypnotherapy booking page | Stop Smoking / Vaping Hypnotherapy, about 2 hours, online or in person | £250.00 | Includes a download to listen to |
On the KW Hypnotherapy page, payment is “to be paid at the time of booking directly to the bank account details provided in the client contract.” Paying in full before the session is common, which makes the refund question below important.
What the Listings Work Out To Per Hour
Dividing a price by the listed session length makes the listings easier to compare. This is our arithmetic from the figures above, rounded to the nearest pound, and it ignores any recording or follow-up that comes with a price.
| Listing | Working | About per hour |
|---|---|---|
| Stop-smoking session, 90 minutes, £250 | £250 divided by 1.5 | £167 |
| Stop smoking and vaping session, about 2 hours, £250 | £250 divided by 2 | £125 |
| Follow-up session, about 60 minutes, £55 | £55 divided by 1 | £55 |
| Initial consultation, 60 to 90 minutes, £60 | £60 divided by 1.5 to 1 | £40 to £60 |
Per hour, the single stop-smoking sessions cost two to three times the ordinary follow-up rate on the same booking page. The gap may reflect the longer, single-visit format, and it is worth asking what it buys. Other practitioners will charge more or less, and prices differ by city, so use these two listings as examples of what a quote can look like and not as a typical price. If you are in the US, ask each practitioner for a written price list before you book.
Are One-Session Offers Worth It?
A single long session is a common stop-smoking offer, and it is easy to see why: it is simple, it has one price and it promises a quick finish. The two UK pages above both sell something close to this, at £250 for a session of roughly 90 minutes to two hours.
The question to ask is not “how long is the session” but “what happens if I smoke again.” Some practitioners include a follow-up or a recording. The Space to Think page lists a download to listen to afterward, which is useful between cravings. Others charge for every additional visit. Ask in advance what the single price includes, whether top-up sessions cost extra and how long after the session you are covered.

Group Seminars, Apps and Recordings
Group seminar prices are not published consistently, so this guide does not quote one. If you are offered a group session, apply the same test as for a one-to-one: what exactly does the price cover, and what is the refund policy.
Hypnosis apps and audio recordings are usually cheaper than live sessions, and some are free to start. We cover how they perform in our review of hypnosis apps, and our wider guide on what quit apps cost lays out subscription prices. A recording is a low-risk way to try the approach before paying £250 for a live session.
What the Evidence Says You Get for the Money
The 2019 Cochrane review of hypnotherapy for smoking cessation is the most recent version of the review (it updated a 2010 edition), with searches run up to July 2018. It brought together “14 included studies that compared hypnotherapy with 22 different control interventions,” with “a total of 1926 participants,” and reported that “Studies were diverse and a single meta-analysis was not possible.” The authors judged only one study to be at low risk of bias and 10 to be at high risk.
Its findings are worth reading closely because they are balanced:
- Compared with behavioral support matched for contact time, the review found “no statistically significant difference” (low certainty evidence).
- When hypnotherapy was added on top of other treatments, five small studies pooled to a benefit, but the authors warn that “this result should be interpreted with caution due to the high risk of bias across studies.”
- Their conclusion: “There is insufficient evidence to determine whether hypnotherapy is more effective for smoking cessation than other forms of behavioural support or unassisted quitting. If a benefit is present, current evidence suggests the benefit is small at most.”
In plain terms, the evidence is insufficient, not negative. Some people do quit after hypnosis, and many people quit with nothing but willpower, so a quit that follows a session does not show the session caused it. For a fuller discussion, see our hypnotherapy evidence guide.
Because the trials were too diverse for a single pooled quit rate, there is no honest way to calculate a cost per quit for hypnosis, and no price page can either. Be wary of any listing that does.

Cheaper Options With Proven Support
If your goal is the most quit for the least money, start with the options that cost little or nothing and that have the strongest support, and add hypnosis on top if you want it.
- Free national tools. The NHS Better Health quit smoking page offers a free Personal Quit Plan and a free NHS Quit Smoking app, and says that reaching 28 days smoke free makes you “5 times more likely to quit for good.”
- Nicotine replacement. In our nicotine gum price guide, a full 12-week course of store-brand gum came to roughly $130 to $156 on one US retailer’s October 2026 prices, under assumptions we state there. That is a different currency, so compare it with your own local prices.
- A priced comparison of every method. The cheapest way to quit puts the options side by side.
- Other paid options. If you are weighing a different premium route, see laser therapy vs NRT.
- A free app. iQuit is free on Google Play and the App Store and covers craving logging, SOS support and a money dashboard.
The US government’s Smokefree.gov says nicotine replacement “can more than double your chances of quitting,” and that combining it with counseling such as telephone quitlines or text programs can boost your chances. Those are the supports with a track record, and several cost little or nothing.
None of these rules hypnosis out. They simply set the bar: before paying £250 for one session, you should expect it to add something these cheaper tools do not.

Questions to Ask Before You Pay
- What exactly does the price include? Length, recording, follow-ups, support by message.
- Is there a refund or a free repeat session? Many offers advertise a guarantee. Ask for the terms in writing, including how long it lasts and what you must do to qualify.
- Are you on an accredited register? In the UK, the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) runs a voluntary register of practitioners, including hypnotherapists, and says its register is approved as an Accredited Register by the Professional Standards Authority. Registration is not a guarantee of results, but it shows a standard of conduct.
- What happens if I smoke afterward? A good practitioner will have a plan for a slip.
- Will you work with my doctor or pharmacist? Hypnosis can sit alongside nicotine replacement, and you should not drop proven aids on a practitioner’s say-so.
If a practitioner claims a near-100 percent success rate, ask for the study. The Cochrane review contains no such figure, and practitioners’ own success rates are rarely independently checked.
Pairing Any Plan With Tracking
Whatever you choose, tracking helps you see what you got for your money. iQuit is free on Google Play and the App Store. Its dashboard counts days smoke-free and shows money saved in your own currency against a savings goal you set, and its craving log records triggers so you can spot patterns. If a session makes the first weeks easier, you will see it in the log; if it does not, you will see that too, and you can add another support before a slip turns into a relapse.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does hypnosis to quit smoking cost?
Two UK practitioner booking pages listed stop-smoking sessions at £250 each on October 11, 2026, for about 90 minutes to two hours. One of them also listed £60 for a first consultation and £55 per follow-up. These are two listings, not an average (KW Hypnotherapy, Space to Think Hypnotherapy).
Does hypnosis work to quit smoking?
The 2019 Cochrane review of 14 trials found the studies too diverse for a single meta-analysis and concluded that there is insufficient evidence to determine whether hypnotherapy works better than other support or unassisted quitting. If there is a benefit, it is small at most (Cochrane, 2019).
Is one session of hypnosis enough to stop smoking?
Some practitioners sell a single long session, and some people do stop afterward, but the Cochrane review found no reliable proof that hypnotherapy beats other approaches. Ask what happens if you smoke again, and whether follow-ups or a refund are included (Cochrane, 2019).
Is hypnosis cheaper than nicotine replacement?
A single £250 session costs more than a course of store-brand nicotine gum did in our October 2026 price guide, roughly $130 to $156 for 12 weeks on one US retailer, though the currencies differ and both depend on your local prices and use (our gum cost guide).
Are there free alternatives to paid hypnosis?
Yes. The NHS Better Health quit smoking page offers a free Personal Quit Plan and a free NHS Quit Smoking app, and iQuit is free to download. Free tools can be combined with nicotine replacement and with hypnosis if you want it (NHS Better Health).
How do I find a qualified hypnotherapist in the UK?
The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council keeps a voluntary UK register that includes hypnotherapy and says it is an Accredited Register approved by the Professional Standards Authority. Check a practitioner against the register before booking (CNHC).
Should I ask for a refund guarantee?
Ask what the guarantee covers, in writing, before you pay. Some booking pages take payment at the time of booking, as the KW Hypnotherapy page does, so the refund terms matter. A guarantee does not show that the method works (KW Hypnotherapy).
