How much does Zyn cost per year? At the manufacturer’s suggested price of $5.64 a can, a can-a-day habit comes to about $2,059 a year, and a two-can-a-day habit passes $4,100. Your own number depends on your state, the store and how many cans you use. This guide works out the annual cost at three real-world price points for half a can, one can and two cans a day, explains why taxes are pushing prices up in some states, and shows how to turn the total into a savings goal.
The Quick Table: Half, One and Two Cans a Day
The table below multiplies three can prices by the number of cans used per day over 365 days. The three prices come from the sources in the next section: a low retail price of $4, the $5.64 manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) reported by Tobacco Insider, and a high retail price of $7. These are before any extra state tax added at the register.
| Usage | At $4.00 a can | At $5.64 a can | At $7.00 a can |
|---|---|---|---|
| Half a can a day | $730 | $1,029 | $1,278 |
| One can a day | $1,460 | $2,059 | $2,555 |
| Two cans a day | $2,920 | $4,117 | $5,110 |
Put another way, a can a day at $5.64 is $5.64 a day and about $39.48 a week, which is why the yearly total surprises people who only notice the daily outlay. To use it for your own habit, take what you actually pay for a can, multiply by the cans you use per day and by 365. If you buy a multi-pack, divide the pack price by the number of cans first. Our guide to nicotine pouch and Zyn statistics covers how many people use pouches and how often.

What a Can Costs in 2026
Zyn’s US site does not appear to list a price, so prices come from third parties and retailers, and they change with promotions and location. Here is what we found when we checked on 3 October 2026:
- Manufacturer’s suggested retail price. Business publication Tobacco Insider reports an MSRP of $5.64 for a can of Zyn in the USA, noting that the effective price can differ because of promotions, coupons and retailer margins, and that the lowest effective price it saw was $3.49 (Tobacco Insider, “How much are Zyns?”, posted September 12, 2025).
- Retail range. An online pouch retailer’s price guide says a can of Zyn runs between $4 and $7 at most US retailers before state tax, and that high-tax states push prices higher (Roon, Zyn price guide, 2026 section). That is a retailer’s own blog, so treat it as a market snapshot, not an official figure.
- What is in a can. Zyn’s FAQ states that “Every can of ZYN contains 15 nicotine pouches,” while the larger-format ZYN Ultra comes with 20 pouches per can (ZYN FAQ).
The practical takeaway is that a single can price is a range, not a number. If you pay $4 in one state and $7 in another, your annual figure differs by more than $1,000 at a can a day. We therefore give ranges throughout rather than one headline cost.
State Taxes on Nicotine Pouches
Taxes are a moving part. Two state notices we read directly show how quickly the landscape is shifting:
- Washington. The Department of Revenue says that, effective January 1, 2026, “any product that contains nicotine, whether it comes from tobacco or is made synthetically, is subject to the tobacco products tax,” and lists synthetic nicotine pouches among the newly taxed products, “previously not taxed under either tax” (Washington Department of Revenue special notice, November 25, 2025).
- New York. The Department of Taxation and Finance says that, effective September 1, 2026, “the New York State tobacco products tax is extended to alternative nicotine products. The tax is imposed at the rate of 75% of the wholesale price of the product” (NYS Tax Department, Important Notice N-26-2, July 9, 2026).
The tax is applied at the wholesale or distributor level, so the effect on the shelf price depends on the retailer’s markup, and we have not found an official figure for how much it adds to a can. The reliable rule is to check what a can costs where you actually buy it, and to expect prices in newly taxing states to be at the higher end of the ranges above. Other states have their own rules, and some do not tax pouches at all, so a neighbor’s price is not a safe guide to yours.
Monthly, Yearly and Five-Year Totals
Annual totals are easier to feel when split into months, and five-year totals show how a small daily habit compounds. These use the same three prices as the quick table.
| Can price | Per month | Per year | Five years |
|---|---|---|---|
| $4.00 | $122 | $1,460 | $7,300 |
| $5.64 | $172 | $2,059 | $10,293 |
| $7.00 | $213 | $2,555 | $12,775 |
These totals assume the price stays flat, which it rarely does. With new taxes arriving, assuming prices hold is, if anything, the optimistic case. For the same math applied to vapes, see how much money you save quitting vaping.
Why the Per-Pouch Price Matters
Zyn cans hold 15 pouches, and Tobacco Insider’s comparison table lists most competing brands at 20 pouches per can. Divide the $5.64 MSRP by 15 and a Zyn pouch costs about 38 cents, whereas the brands in that table with 20-pouch cans work out lower per pouch at their own listed prices. Compare brands by price per pouch, not price per can, if cost is part of your decision. Our Zyn vs Velo vs on! comparison sets the brands side by side.
Per-pouch price also shows why heavy use gets expensive quickly. At one can a day you use 15 pouches, so even a modest price per pouch becomes a four-figure annual bill. Counting pouches rather than cans, then multiplying by your real price, is the clearest way to see it.
What That Money Could Do Instead
Dollars are abstract until you attach them to something you would actually choose. A can-a-day habit at the $5.64 suggested price costs about $172 a month. That is a rent contribution, a car payment, or a standing monthly transfer into savings. Over five years at the same price it adds up to about $10,293, which would cover a meaningful emergency fund or a deposit.
Pick your own comparison. If the money would go to debt, divide your yearly figure by 12 and put that monthly amount toward the balance. If it would go to a holiday, divide it by the number of months until you want to travel. The goal is to turn a number you would rather not look at into a target you can look forward to.

How to Cut the Number
There are two honest ways to lower your Zyn spend: pay less per can, or use fewer cans. Cheaper cans exist (the retail ranges above show how much prices vary), and buying in multi-packs lowers the per-can price at many online retailers. The caution is that a lower price per can makes it easier to use more cans, which can cancel the saving.
Using fewer cans is where the big savings are. As a worked example, trimming from one can a day to three-quarters of a can (about eleven pouches) at $5.64 a can brings the yearly cost from about $2,059 to about $1,544, a saving of roughly $515 a year before you have quit anything. Cutting from two cans a day to one halves the yearly figure in the quick table, and going from one to half a can halves it again. For a structured way to step down, our Zyn taper plan lays out a schedule, and how to quit nicotine in every form covers pouches alongside cigarettes and vapes. Neither is medical advice; if you want medicines or professional support, talk to a doctor or pharmacist.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a can of Zyn cost?
Tobacco Insider reports a manufacturer’s suggested price of $5.64 per 15-pouch can in the USA, with the lowest effective price it saw at $3.49. A retailer’s 2026 guide puts most US retail prices at $4 to $7 a can before state tax. Prices vary by state, store and promotion.
How much does Zyn cost per month?
At a can a day, roughly $122 a month at $4 a can, $172 at the $5.64 suggested price and $213 at $7. Half a can a day halves those figures; two cans a day doubles them. Use your own can price for an exact number.
How many pouches are in a can of Zyn?
Zyn’s FAQ says every can of ZYN contains 15 nicotine pouches. The ZYN Ultra format comes with 20 pouches per can. Compare brands by price per pouch rather than price per can, since pouch counts differ between brands.
Are nicotine pouches taxed?
Increasingly, in some states. Washington applied its tobacco products tax to nicotine products, including synthetic pouches, from January 1, 2026. New York extends its tobacco products tax to alternative nicotine products at 75% of wholesale price from September 1, 2026.
Why do Zyn prices differ so much between stores?
Tobacco Insider notes that promotions, coupons and retailer margins all move the effective price away from the suggested price, and state taxes differ by location. Online multi-packs are often cheaper per can than single cans at a convenience store.
How can I work out what I spend on Zyn per year?
Multiply the price you pay per can by the cans you use per day, then by 365. If you buy multi-packs, divide the pack price by the number of cans first. For example, one can a day at $5.64 is about $2,059 a year.
Does iQuit have a mode for tracking Zyn?
iQuit is built around quitting smoking, and we do not describe a dedicated pouch mode. Its dashboard shows money saved against savings goals, so check in the app whether its settings fit a pouch habit. The yearly-cost math in this guide works with any tool.
